There’s a group of San Diego Bloggin’ Mama’s that spend quite a bit of time together. Earlier this week we learned that one of our SDMomfia had a lose in her family. Our hearts just broke for her. My original intention for this post was for me to do a vlog. I just can’t. I can’t make it past 30 seconds without crying. I just keep thinking about Everyday Mama and everything her family is going through. So I’m not even going to try.
There’s no reason to make this a fluffy post. I’m just going to give you all the information I can and hope you’ll do something to help.
WitKids will be hosting a family-friendly volunteer event on Saturday, September 11, 2010 in Little Italy’s Amici Park from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to collect items for military care packages. The event will be held in honor of Staff Sgt. Casey J. Grochowiak; a local Special Forces Army Ranger who was recently killed in-the-line of duty in Afghanistan.
There are dozens of items that the soldiers need. Most needed are Beef Jerky, Sunflower Seeds, instant or ground coffee, travel-size baby wipes, liquid sanitizer, pre-paid phone cards and small flashlights. There is a complete list here.
“Casey loved kids and was always looking out for others, our family knows this event was something he would love and support,” said Christine Fox, sister-in-law to Sgt. Grochowiak and owner of EverydayMama.com, a local family-friendly website that has partnered with WitKids to host the event. “These care packages will be sent in his honor as a gesture of support of his fellow troops.”
Donations will be accepted through September 30, 2010 at the WitKids headquarters. Later this month, WitKids will host a care package assembly event where volunteers will assemble the packages to go overseas. For more information on how to donate or volunteer, visit www.witkids.org.
Thank you for your help in advance!! Please keep the Grochowiak family and all the other military families in your thoughts and your prayers.
Personal not from me to the Grochowiak family. There is nothing I can say to make this any easier for you. I am so sorry for your lose. Thank you for your sacrifice! You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
