Tell us about you and your background. Kids, work and so on…
Well, I’m a 32 year old mother of two boys, ages 4 and 1 and wife to the most fantastic husband. I’m from Syracuse, NY but currently live near Charlotte, NC. I have 8 years of experience as an airline employee but have always been a writer. I’ve been a published writer since I was 14 (brag) and find I actually communicate my point better with the words I write over what I try to verbally say. I grew up a thin girl, and didn’t start having problems with my weight until I hit my twenties and my hormones started throwing me all over the place.
When I married my husband, I was a smokin’ hot size 6 with a flat (ish) stomach and a body free of stretch marks. Six weeks into the marriage, I got pregnant and there wasn’t a buffet that could hold me down. I was never full. I only stopped eating when my jaw got sore from chewing. That said, I gained 50 pounds with that pregnancy and only lost 20 before getting pregnant with my second child a few years later.
That pregnancy saw me tipping the scales past 200 pounds. I honestly can’t tell you what I weighed, because I refused to look when I stepped on the scale at the doctor’s office. After I recovered from the C-Section, I was hell bent on getting the weight off. I knew I wasn’t going to have any more children (sorry, mom) and I was sick of being out of shape.
I tried EVERYTHING. Fad diets, workout tapes, vomiting-you name it. Nothing was working and I was miserable, thereby making everyone in my life miserable. One day, my husband emailed me the link to the unreleased game by Nintendo called the Wii Fit. I figured for $89, it couldn’t hurt me so I told him to get it.
Without going into tons of details, I’ll just sum it up by saying that 1 hour a day on that combined with strict portion control of the foods I love got me a 10 pound a month weight loss. You can read the actual story and see pictures of me and my Wii Fit graph on my website at http://www.momspective.com/wii-fit
Where did the idea for wiimommies come from?
After I wrote that post on my website, the response was overwhelming. Women (and some men) everywhere were rushing out to buy the Wii Fit and asking me for advice on how to use it. Oh, if only I knew what affiliate marketing was…
Anyway, after about a month of dozens of emails and discussions with my husband, he suggested I create a spin off site of my site and the very next day, I was approached by a group of women who read my story and together we formed the Wii Mommies.
We launched the ‘New Year, New You’ kick off and we’ve been going strong ever since. We’ve grown so much that I took it from a subdomain of my website to it’s own domain at www.WiiMommies.com where we have our blog, talking about our individual fitness journeys using the various games for the Nintendo Wii gaming system and we feature forum members who wish to write a guest post each Friday in a segment we call “Fitness Friday”. The featured writer will write a post on our website and talk about anything fitness related. If they’re looking for support, they ask for it. If they want to brag, we encourage them to brag away. We also have a linking system underneath the featured post each week where bloggers who want to participate can write up their own “Fitness Friday” post on their website and link it back on our site for a centralized list of everyone’s progress/setbacks.
Tell us about the other wiimommies.
Oh, what can I say? They are simply stunning. We have-
Jenn Hethcoat – The Coupon Coup – Currently pregnant, beautiful and using the Wii Fit with her doctors supervision and modifying poses to stay fit during pregnancy.
Sarah Pinnix – The Real Life Blog – Always positive, Sarah is always there to encourage us and can admit when she needs everyone to
give her strength in her journey to good health.
Cynthia Werry – The Good Enough Witch – Cynthia is the woman who helped bring this together. She was the first to read my story and met the other two gals while on Twitter and together they decided to come to me to form this wonderful group.
Tell us about your 30 day challenge.
EA SPORTS Active is a new virtual fitness product, which was created in collaboration with Bob Greene, Oprah’s personal trainer. It has a built in 30 day Challenge and EA SPORTS has asked 12 participants, me included, to take the challenge together to show the world what this product can do. We each have our own Facebook ‘Fan’ page, where people can show us their support and the person who gives us the most support will win their own copy of EA SPORTS Active upon its release. You can find my Facebook page at Facebook and you can read up on the product and all 12 participants on the EA SPORTS Active website located at http://www.easportsactive.com/
For those of us who haven’t started using the wiifit or easactive yet, what advice do you have for us?
There are three components to weight loss. You have to exercise, watch what and how much you eat and you need a network of support to surround you. The weight won’t come pouring off right away, everything takes time and it’s easy to get discouraged. Just remember that there are thousands of others that are in the same boat and people need to be there to support each other. The goal of the Wii Mommies website and forums is to provide the support we all need (free!) and to talk about different fitness and diet methods that work for us.
I also noticed that you post a picture of you in a bikini. You look great, and congrats on the weight loss, but you say theirs more to come! I bow down to you!!!
I actually Video tapped myself doing a turn in that bikini, and pulled a still out. At the end of my 30 day challenge, I’m going to do it again and see if there’s any change. It’s real easy to photoshop a before/after picture but there’s no mistaking a video. I’m watching what I eat and working out using the EA SPORTS Active virtual fitness product for the Nintendo Wii and if it can change my body in any way over the next 30 days, you’re all going to see it.
