Top Five Beaches for Family Fun in Boca Raton

For many families across the country, August heralds the return to school and the beginning of the end of summer fun and with it jaunts to the beach. In sunny, South Florida, that is decidedly NOT the case. For those of us blessed to live in an almost endless summer, paradise, we keep the beach towels and sunscreen on hand year round and these are some of the best spots to tote your tots and let the good times roll.

South Beach Park

Recently renovated, the Palmetto Park access point is walking distance to a vast array of options for food, be it breakfast, lunch or just a snack. It also has two park areas located adjacent to the pavilion, both are gated for your children’s safety. The best part about this beach is that there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy. With multiple bathrooms, parks, food/drink nearby and great people watching and easy access it’s the #1 pick for families.

Spanish River Park

With more parking than most stadiums, this park is home to multiple nature trails, a popular site for overnight camping (requests have to be approved by the Park Department in Boca), self-contained fires are allowed at this beach (pets are NOT). The grills, bathrooms and abundant parking along with a wonderful path which spans from Spanish River Boulevard and A1A south to Palmetto Park Road for biking, running, blading, makes this beach a popular stop for locals and visitors alike.

Red Reef Park

Another gem in the crown of Boca Raton, this park boasts a man made reef, a sixty seven acre adjoining nature/learning center, an observatory tower, trails, a golf course, multiple nature trails, two parks on the property one dedicated to younger children and the other providing something for older children to “sink their teeth into”. Besides the recent popularity of kite surfers to hang off this coast, its also home to snorkelers, beach divers and a host of pavilions, outdoor toys for small children and spacious bathrooms. If a day of cooking out, flying kites, watching surfers fly their own “kites”, learning about our local marine life, including the much beloved sea turtles is appealing to you, then Red Reef won’t disappoint. The only word of caution, come early, because parking fills up quickly.

South Inlet Park

Replete with a cranking fishing area, playgrounds for the 5-12 year old set, sheltered picnic grilling areas and a jetty, this beach park is a well-known haven for photographers from all over South Florida. The lighting here seems to be almost as perfect as the picturesque backdrop of the inlet and all the boats ferrying passengers to and from their aquatic adventures. Due to the spectacular scenery, photo shoots and locals, the parking at this venue is often lined up down A1A, so, come early, bring a cooler and relax while you bask in our trademark trade winds.
