I was born a Steeler Fan

If you’ve ever been to Western PA you know what I mean when I say “I was born a Steeler Fan”.   Most NFL cities “have a team”.  Pittsburgh is the team.   Phoenix has the Cardinals.  San Diego has the Chargers.  Pittsburgh is Black and Gold.

I love football Sunday! Some of my favorite memories from childhood are watching football games with family and friends.  Hearing my Mom and Aunts scream louder than any of the guys in the room always made me laugh.  I love the tension.  The excitement.  The screams.  The laughs. Win or Lose it was always fun.

Yes, I know, I cheered for the Arizona Cardinals.  In my defense, the Pittsburgh Steelers do not have cheerleaders and I lived in Arizona at the time.  During audition interviews I even told the judges I was a Steeler fan. One of my greatest thrills was the time the Cardinals played the Steelers and Bill Cowher was standing right in front of me.  It took everything inside of me not to scream for the Steelers that game.

One of the first conversations I had with my L.A. born and raised husband was about my love of football and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  I made it very clear, that he too, needed be fan.  Sorry honey.  There was also the conversation I had with him to let him know that our kids would also be Steeler fans and that it would not be my fault.  They would just be born that way.

Even thought we live on the West Coast everyone cheers screams for the Black and Gold.

Last week it was time to introduce Zach to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He is proof you’re born a Steeler’s fan.

I always hate the about me section. I’m so many different things, I’m never sure how to narrow it down into a paragraph or 2. I love taking pictures, dancing in my living room, talking, I really love talking, and Traveling. I’m an Ex NFL Cheerleader, a “first wife” and now a first time mommy with a beautiful little girl. My life is far from boring and though there are times I long for boring, in the end I’d have it no other way!

  2. Theresa, are you from western PA? I live in Butler, less than an hour north of Pittsburgh. It’s definitely Steelers Country and has its own unique culture.

  3. I totally understand, except I was born a Bears fan. We are just as die-hard as Steelers fans with a slightly different accent and a different preference in colors. It’s difficult not being able to watch all the games now that we are living in San Diego!
