Got my booty kicked at Pure Barre

The Pure Barre Technique fuses dance, Pilates and Lotte Berk exercises while utilizing the ballet barre to create the most intense and effective 55-minute workout that exists.

Translation, work one particular muscle group until is burns, hold it a little longer until is shakes, hold it a few more moments until it feels like it’s going to give out  and then stretch it out.   I know you think I maybe over exaggerating a bit, but NO!  I left my first Pure Barre classes on very wobbly legs not sure if I was going to be able to push my gas petal to drive home.  I spent the next couple of days nursing a very sore body.  After I left I swore I’d never go back, but now that I’ve had a couple of days to recover, I’m dying to do it again.  How weird is that?

Pure Barre was adapted from the Lotte Berk method bychoreographer Carrie Rezabeck in 2006. I thought I was going for a basic Ballet Barre work out, but the only thing that was familiar to a ballet work out was the bar itself.  We started out with a 10 minute warm up and then moved to arms, legs and abs.  After each muscle group you stretch that muscle out,  they say this helps to lengthen the muscle.  I think it was just to torture me.

There are Pure Barre studios across the country, but if your lucky enough to live in or near La Jolla you can try it out at a great price!  Between now and April 20th, you can purchase 2 Pure Barre classes for $25 through Buy With Me.  Once you’ve taken your first class, please let me know what you think!

About Theresa

I always hate the about me section. I’m so many different things, I’m never sure how to narrow it down into a paragraph or 2. I love taking pictures, dancing in my living room, talking, I really love talking, and Traveling. I’m an Ex NFL Cheerleader, a “first wife” and now a first time mommy with a beautiful little girl. My life is far from boring and though there are times I long for boring, in the end I’d have it no other way!

  1. Reviewed the Pure Barre DVD too. What a workout! It’s amazing how much you can work your muscles even with little movements.

I am a fan of the Bar Method and Physique 57. A barre studio called Barre Evolution just opened up in my city and I can’t wait to go try it out! I was a dancer all my life and I know for a fact that these are the most effective ways to strengthen and lengthen those muscles to give you a long and lean dancer physique!
